As video game enthusiasts around the world celebrated Mario Day on Tuesday (MarI0 as in March 10), Nintendo and Lego announced what sounds like a match made in toy heaven. Both companies shared a short video on social media, teasing a collaboration between the two iconic brands featuring the world’s most famous plumber. Whether it’s a Lego Super Mario game or a series of Mario-themed Lego figures remains unclear, but considering Lego’s long history of licensed video games, fans of the Super Mario franchise are understandably getting their hopes up.
With Super Mario, Nintendo has managed the rare feat of creating a video game character that bridges generations. “Super Mario Bros”, the most-successful game featuring Mario and his brother Luigi was published in 1985 and today, more than 30 years later, the release of a Super Mario game still sparks excitement among millions of players around the world.
