February 5 is National Girls and Women in Sports Day in the United States. Celebrated by the Women’s Sport Foundation, this year marks the 39th edition of the event. The following chart takes a look at female participation in soccer among the general population around the world. According to a surveyconducted by Statista Consumer Insights, soccer is particularly popular among women in Mexico, where 20 percent of female respondents aged 18-64 years old said they participated in it at least occasionally. InBrazil, another nation famed for its world class soccer, 14 percent of women reported participating in football. The figures were even higher among men in these two countries, at 58 percent and 65 percent, respectively.
